Welcome to Greg Sapp's TM Network!!!
I am a disabled U.S. Active Army Veteran with eight years active duty service as a Logistics Specialist. I proudly support the military and their dedicated service to preserve our way of life. I have two beautiful daughters; Stephanie and Cloe

I was diagnosed with an uncommon neurological disorder called, Transverse Myelitis on, March 17, 2008, at St. Joseph/Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. I support the Multiple Sclerosis and Transverse Myelitis Associations research as an online resource detective. Volunteering with these groups helps target potential organizations that will support the mission of discovering the cure for these invisible disorders. It also provides a better lifestyle and support for those of us who have been struck by a neurological disorder. Thank you for joining my Network!

From Deidra Rosario:

My 2 year old daughter was diagnosed with TM this past June and is still currently in the hospital, hopefully getting ready to go to a rehab

hospital in Pittsburgh now. She also was the worlds youngest child to be

implanted with a Diaphragmatic Pacer, same as Christopher Reeves and

also by same surgeon, Dr. Raymond Onders. She also had to have a trach

and g-tube put in as well. This happened all of the sudden, no warning

signs, she went… Continue

Dear Members,

As many of you know, Ning, our current network home, will begin phasing out their free network services. What does this mean for our network? If we do not accept one of their pricing plans, our network will eventually be deleted by Ning. Here is a copy of the announcement that was sent out in May:…

Medical Record Review

Posted on February 13, 2010 at 11:52am 0 Comments

As most of you know, I was asked to submit a questionnaire on Transverse Myelitis in response to a email I received from the Discovery Channel. I was going through my medical records and came across a few items that caught my attention. Maybe some of you have the same items in your medical record and we can compare our results and investigate further.

First, the Thoracic Sp. MRI/WO Contrast performed on 3/18 indicates Schmorl's Nodes at T10 and T11. This is a MRI displaying the… Continue

My story wow!! I was 11 years old when TM hit me I am now 63. I did not recover and have lived with a T2 complete lesion all those years. It is not an easy life but it is amazing how you adapt to it. I started driving at 16 and still do. I went to college and onto work for many years. I married and had my son. I have travelled to many countries and driven thousands of miles in my own. I say the only thing I haven’t done is walk.
Even though I have had 52 years of TM I would not offer any advice as we are all so completely different. Just to say forget what you can’t do and get on with what you can and enjoy!!

Hi, Greg, thanks for setting up this website. I am a 54 yo female, diagnosed May 13th of this year. It really hit me at the beginning of May when both my legs became completely numb at work one morning. Since then I have been seen by my neurologist, a hemotologist-oncologist & a surgeon (suspected thyroid cancer - thankfully I'm cancer free at this point after having my thyroid removed in August), 2 neurosurgeons for a suspected lesion in my spinal cord at the T1-2 level. The neurosurgeons I saw in August. Both were talking about back surgery because of the lesion indicated by MRI back in May. Thankfully the second neurosurgeon ordered a new thoracic and cervical MRI when I saw him in Nashville, TN in late August. The lesion that was there in May was gone in August! So now my neurologist, after reviewing the new MRI, feels that the original "lesion" was just inflammation in my spinal cord. In the meantime, I am taking Prednisone, which my neuro is starting to wean me off of, and Lyrica for neuropathy in both legs and feet. My back hurts almost constantly - my neuro thinks this is muscle spasm or my back muscles straining. Doesn't matter if I'm sitting or standing, it's always hurting and gets worse the longer I sit or stand. Can't win for losing! My meds have caused me to gain 40 pounds, are messing with my head, appetite and emotions, and I'm not improving at all. Before this horrible disease that no one has ever heard of hit me I worked full time in retail sales with people that were like family. Now I feel forgotten and alone, and I sorely miss the interaction at work. I hope to improve enough to go back to work at least part time, but I do not hold out much hope, not at this point. It's always good to find support from people who are in my shoes. Thanks for this medium. We appreciate you.

I was prescribed prednisone by my neurologist initially by injection and later as a pill. This steroid is accountable for causing me to gain 45 pounds since the March 20 diagnoses. It is remarkable how much weight is gained while maintaining the same diet as before this illness. I also take Lyrica but for neuropathy in my right leg. My back hurts almost constantly also. I just went to the Social Security office today and filed with them for this disorder because I lost my job on June 16 and I can't walk without the assistance of a cane. I never knew living a healthy life as a track and field runner would end with this type of disability. I use to run in marathons and 10K races, now I can't walk without assistance from a device. This is a horrid disorder that hopefully will have a good ending with a cure. It has almost cost me my life when my medications clashed and made me disoriented thinking the easy way out was by elimination. Thank God I came to my sense after overdosing and called me mother who found me before it was too late. I've learned to live with TM day by day and praying for a cure. It's nice to hear other peoples stories and know I am not alone. Thanks for writing.

Hi Greg,
I was denied I think everyone is the first time it really is pathetic. If you are make sure you keep the letter of denial and go call a lawyer. You have a Military background I doubt they will deny you but just make sure you have access to all your medical notes from docs! I did a lot of the running around to save on lawyer fees.
TC and thanks for adding me!
